Where should I stay and what should I do while in Cincinnati?
I’m looking for a nice hotel in a good area that doesn’t cost a fortune. I’m also looking for fun things to do with my children while in the area. Any ideas?

The Cincinnati Zoo is very well-known. I’ve not been there, but it’s supposed to be one of the best. Also, ferry boat rides on the river. I have done that. Your kids would love it! I don’t know how old yours are, but if they are into skateboarding, have them bring it along. Great parks for it down along the river.
I don’t know anything about hotels tho. I just drive there and back if I go. Have fun!

Hi. For things to do with your kids, first, I’ll tell you that you won’t see me recommending Kings Island. Yes, it’s fun, yes, your kids will love it, and yes, you’ll spend several hundred dollars in one day. Instead, I recommend the following:
I recommend the Cincinnati Museum Center. It’s near downtown, located in the old train station. It’s wonderful and had several exhibits, including a kids area.

Also, check out The Beach Waterpark. It’s across the street from Kings Island and much cheaper, but obviously only water rides.

Coney Island/Sunlite Pool is also fun and a cheaper alternative to Kings Island. It has the world’s largest swimming pool and a few fun rides.

Go to Sawyer Point. It’s a park on the river, near downtown, with several fun things to do. Pack a lunch and bring your walking shoes.

In Northern Kentucky, go to Johnny’s Toys. They have a place there called Totter’s Otterville. I would say this is going to be the best bank for your buck! It’s sooo much fun for younger kids. The only negative is that you have to go through the store to get there. There is a fee for kids, but again, just as much fun at Kings Island for 1-7 year old kids, and a LOT cheaper for the adults. Your kids will be there for hours! There’s a place to eat there that is affordable. Bring towels for the kids – there are some water activities. There’s an inside (air-conditioned) and an outside area.

Sharon Woods is a county park in Cincinnati that has an historic village and wonderful indoor playground. It’s fun, cheap and beautiful. It also has some of the best fossils in the nation! Pack a lunch and bring your walking shoes!

For hotels, I recommend one of two places.
1) You stay downtown at the Hilton Netherland Plaza. This is an historic landmark and it’s connected to a mall downtown. The rooms are beautiful and the food at the Palm in the hotel is incredible. You’re also close to the ballpark and you’re in the heart of the city. The negative is that you’ll have to pay $ 14/day to park.
2) I also recommend the Embassy Suites Hotel in Blue Ash, which is slightly north of the city. It was recently remodeled and has a pool that your kids will enjoy. Each room is a suite with a couch that turns into a bed. And parking is free. It also includes a full cooked-to-order breakfast each day and a 2-hour manager’s cocktail reception each night.
Hope this helps!

what are some free poetry contests i could enter?
im a 15 year old, and i absolutly love poetry, and i would like to submit some of my work to a free contest that could possibly win publication, scholarships, or money. it has to be free, and safe though. what are some reliable ways i could enter a contest? any good poetry contests out there?
Suggestion by Dude the Obscure
Look in the “Classified Ads” section of Poets & Writers magazine (online at www.pw.org). Some but not all of those poetry contests listed there are free.
Do not enter contests like “International Library of Poetry” that award a “semi-finalist” prize to anyone who enters and then try to sell you an expensive but worthless anthology with your poem printed in small type on page 8723 or whatever. They are scams. Stick to ones sponsored by schools, colleges, or legitimate literary magazines.

Unfortunately, free contests are often scams. Practically everybody who enters the scam contest gets a letter calling them a semifinalist and telling them that their poem is going to be published in a book, which they can buy for a special author’s price that is actually a huge ripoff. The book is worthless, just the poems of all the “semi-finalists” slapped between covers. So basically, you submit your poem to their crappy contest, and they make a fortune selling it back to you. Legitimate contests usually charge entry fees, because they’re not making a ton of money with a worthless book scam.
If you want to submit your poems for publication in a legitimate magazine, you can do that without paying a fee. You won’t get any money if they publish your poem, and good magazines publish only a small fraction of the poems that people submit to them, but you won’t be getting ripped off by scam artists. The book “Poet’s Market” (your local library might have a copy) has lots of information on magazines that publish poetry. You can also find good information at this site:
